Kristen's New Interview with Nylon Magazine

the insider: kristen stewart
the actress plays matchmaker with her favorite scents.

French fashion house Balenciaga is pretty badass-- so obviously the label wasn’t going to put out any old floral fragrance. Its Florabotanica convinced cool girls, who wouldn’t normally go anywhere near a flowery scent, to join the garden party. That status was cemented by its face Kristen Stewart--an actress who doesn’t do girly-girl, as evidenced by her preference for Chucks and unwashed hair on the red carpet. This spring, Stewart reprised her spokesperson role for Balenciaga’s latest unconventional take on a flower, Rosabotanica. She was nice enough to take the time to discuss the fragrances, what she would wear with each, and which one would be Bella’s signature scent.

You’ve said in the past that you weren’t really into fragrances, but now that you’ve been the face of the Balenciaga fragrances for awhile, are you more comfortable being a perfume-wearer?

Yeah, yeah I’m a very comfortable perfume-wearer now. I hadn’t really taken to any particular scent before I did this, and so luckily, I was more than a huge fan of it when I first smelled it. Whenever I had anything to do with them it always felt like, you know, just really fucking cool and natural and. To be the face of a brand seems a bit of a superficial, but this was really about my love for Balenciaga. And then so, when I actually smelled Florabotanica, I really took to it. I sort of came into my own, in regards to fragrance, at a perfect time.

It feels very adult, once you find your signature scent.

It does, right? And, you know, it doesn’t go with everything, like if you wake up and put on a T-shirt and a baseball cap, it’s not like you’re gonna put on the fragrance. But if you go to dinner that night h, it’s such a nice little touch to add. It makes you feel a little bit more ready.

So do you feel the same about the new one, Rosabotanica?

I’m not sure which one I like more. They’re really different, like it feels like Florabotanica is like white wine, and Rosabotanica is like red, like a little deeper. It’s a little muskier. It’s like they come from the same garden, but the new variation is a bit warmer and headier. It feels like a little bit more nighttime.

Rosabotanica is a little sexier?

It is! Honestly.

So when would you wear Florabotanica versus Rosabotanica?

I think it’s about mood. I would wear Rosabotanica at night, and I would wear Florabotanica in the day. But when I didn’t have Rosabotanica, I wore Florabotanica at night. I feel like if you’re someone who is like quite young wearing it, it can make you feel like, like you’ve like stepped up to the plate, like you’re a little older, like you’re a little bit more ready and finished. And then, I can totally imagine giving it to my mom and having her be like “Wow! This is awesome. This is like fresh.” Depending on who you are, I feel like it has different effects.

Which pieces from Balenciaga would wear with each of these fragrances?

If I were to go out at night and wear my leather jacket, I’d probably put on Rosabotanica. I have this jumpsuit that’s a little bit older but it’s sick, and that I would definitely wear Florabotanica.

If you were going to pick out characters you’ve played, who would wear these fragrances?

That’s interesting. Let’s see…Well, I think Bella (from Twilight) would probably wear Rosabotanica because she is completely preoccupied with all things sexy. And I just finished a movie called Sils Maria, and I play the personal assistant to Juliette Binoche, who’s playing a really famous actress. And you’re always a little bit more curious about my character because you don’t know anything about her and her life but she’s still a big part of the story, so like when anything is revealed about her, like she’s into this guy, or she’s into this artist or something, you’re like, “Oh, whoa! Who are you?” And I think she would be a Rosabotanica girl. Like a little bit darker and more mysterious. Then I would say that Marylou in On the Road, would definitely wear Florabotanica. The character in the book is so fucking effortlessly sexy and light. She’s so sweet and very unassuming.

New Kristen Interview in 'Her World' April 2014 Magazine (Singapore)

The only perfumes Kstew ever wears

Actress Kristen Stewart tells Jaclyn Gunasilan about her two favorite fragrances and the one item she can't leave home without.

She had no interest in perfumes before she was 22.

"Up until I was about 21 or 22, I wasn't really interested in fragrances and never sought them out," says the 24-year-old actress and face of Balenciaga's scents, Florabotanica and the new Rosabotanica.

Her one makeup must-have: lip balm

"I don't get too attached to things, so I don't carry a lot of makeup around. But I feel iffy when I don't have lip balm on me."

Florabotanica was her first signature scent

"Florabotanica stood out for me because it smells organic, not synthetic," says the American actress. "I wore it so frequently that I was starting to 'abuse' it," she adds. "So I'm glad that I have the new Rosabotanica scent now to use as well. It's more of a night-time scent than Florabotanica - it's muskier."

Which scent would she wear with these outfits?

We can imagine Kristen spritzing on Florabotanica, a green-floral scent with notes of rose, mint and carnation, when she wears a casual, brightly coloured outfit.

Kristen says she would pair the new Rosabotanica perfume with a sophisticated all-black outfit, like the one on the left. Described as a spicy and green rose scent, Rosabotanica features notes like pepper, hyacinth and fig.

Kristen's New Interview with NSMBL

NSMBL got the chance to talk to Kristen Stewart about her newest collaboration and her personal favourites, something that was hard to refuse of course! We were allowed to ask the beautiful actress, who just became the face of the new scent ‘Rosabotanica’ by Balenciaga, all kinds of questions. Kristen has started to like the fashion industry more and finds it more interesting, and she is very proud of her new campaign. Curious to see how the production happened behind the scenes, which products Kristen likes to use and how she feels about constantly being in the spotlight? You’ll see and read it here.

How does it feel to be chosen by such an iconic brand, Balenciaga, to become the face of the new perfume Rosabotanica?
It’s really incredible. I immediately took the chance to work with Nicolas Formicetti (I think they got the wrong name here, doesn’t she mean Nicolas Ghesquière?); I met him during a photo-shoot when I was very young and he was the one who showed me how creative and unique fashion can be. When he called me for this product, I was very enthusiastic. It’s really cool because I usually make movies and this is not really my area. In this way I can combine the best of both.

In what way does this perfume fit your personality?
I sincerely think it’s a wonderful scent; Florabotanica (predecessor of Rosabotanica) I have used for a while now. When I was younger, I didn’t often wear perfume but this perfume showed me that it can really complete your look. I love using Florabotanica in the morning, it’s more natural and light. Rosabotanica is very similar, but it is more daring and stronger and it’s ideal for nights, to go to a party or dinner for example.

Have you ever made a beauty/fashion blunder, for example by following a trend or wearing something you just don’t like anymore?
When I started in the world of red carpets and events I was still so young; when I look back now to what I was wearing then, I think ‘what was I thinking’ but it’s what I liked at that moment. When I was a child I really had no idea, which is actually kind of cute. I dressed like a little boy, which made me look a lot like my brother.

Kristen's Florabotanica Ad Now in HQ

Kristen's New Interview with Cosmopolitan UK

What does the Balenciaga brand represent to you & what do you like the most about it?

Honestly it is evocative. It makes you think. It always strikes a perfect balance between elegance and modernity or represents a stark version of either. Which I love! Completely unafraid. The brand, because of its sense of very unexpected creativity, manages to really LEAD the WAY while remaining very true to its artistic initiative. I love the fact that wearing Balenciaga makes you feel unique.

How would you describe the Balenciaga woman? What's her style? Do you recognize yourself into that woman?

She is free. One can tap into qualities they might not know they have wearing Balenciaga. For me its a boldness. A very seductive assertiveness. I recognise myself when I wear it, which is important.

What is your relationship with fashion?

I am very comfortable with it. I am usually one for simplicity and my style is casual most of the time, but I like to go just as far in the other direction. I love pushing boundaries and bringing different aspects of myself to the surface with what I wear.

How do you feel about being the face of this fragrance? To what extent is this new fragrance faithful to your personality?

It is a huge honour for me as I’ve always loved this brand. The fragrance is everything I like; it is natural, feminine, and original. Three things I value very much.

How would you describe this fragrance? What do you like about it?

For me the fragrance is refined yet assertive. Its floral nature makes it alive and young.

What about the design of the bottle?

The bottle is very modern and intriguing. I'd love to see a massive structure of the same design. They really went for it; of course. I want to know what that bottle has inside it.

According to you what makes a good fragrance?

For me, a good fragrance has to take you by surprise. Most importantly it has to be natural: aromatically and in spirit. Sometimes wearing the right scent can give you an unexpected sensuality.

Are you wearing fragrance?

Yes. I feel that wearing a fragrance adds the final touch to your look... very nice experience

Kristen Stewart might be best known for her role as Bella in the Twilight series, but her vitae speaks to her many acting accomplishments. She’s been Joan Jett and Marylou, but, to designer Nicolas Ghesquière, she is also the quintessential Balenciaga girl. Recently tapped to be the face of the Florabotanica Balenciaga fragrance, Stewart has gotten to spend time with one of her favorite brands and designers, and has worked hard to understand the essence of the Balenciaga name. She is nothing if not a thoughtful and intelligent young woman – a fact that becomes radiantly clear in this interview.

When asked what she identified with most in Balenciaga, Stewart responded, “Honestly it is evocative. It makes you think. It always strikes a perfect balance between elegance and modernity or represents a stark version of either – which I love. The brand, because of its sense of very unexpected creativity, manages to really lead the way while remaining very true to its artistic initiative. I love the fact that wearing Balenciaga makes you feel unique.” For fans of the brand, it’s clear to see that she nails its ethos.

Beyond understanding Balenciaga, Stewart understands how she fits into the framework; “I recognize myself when I wear it, which is important,” she shares. The Florabotanica fragrance, which she describes as “refined yet assertive”, embodies the youthful exuberance of Stewart herself. “The fragrance is everything I like,” she describes, “it is natural, feminine, and original – three things I value very much.” For Stewart, working with a brand she admires and a fragrance she loves is an “honor”, and so is it to work with Nicolas Ghesquière. “Nicolas has a creative energy that is undeniably magnetic and very igniting, utterly contagious and inspiring. Being around Nicolas in his element is one of my most valued experiences. He is such a sweet person, so professional, and one of my all-time favorite artists. It was a very nice experience.”

Kristen and Nicholas Ghesquiere's Interview with Vanity Fair Italy

imagebam.com imagebam.com

I’ve never seen a muse so into her role and an artist so inspired. The dangerous relationship between Kristen Stewart and Nicolas Ghesquiére, started for pure interest, as often happens between an Hollywood actress and a successful designer.. “it could have left no trace on me, instead it changed my life”, Kristen tells to Vanity Fair, in a suite at the Bristol Hotel in Paris, looking at Nicolas.

How did you meet each other?
K: I accepted this collaboration, following my instinct, as I always do. Then he got me involved completely. I forgot that I was american, 22, and I found another world and culture; I started dreaming and I felt my body changing: I was becoming a real woman, in the capable hands of someone that guided me.
N: I didn’t want to do a “masquerade”, I wanted her, flesh and blood, with all the emotional baggage that I could get from her. I wanted her to be a “femme” and bold in her choices.

Kristen Stewart succeeded to Charlotte Gainsbourg, as “égérie” of the Balenciaga fragrances. Why do you always choose these kind of women, with an unconventional femininity, slim and without the conventionally classic body?
N: Charlotte and Kristen are perfect for my creations, powerful muses that aren’t afraid of anything.
K: It’s true that I’m not a safe-kind of girl, nor constant and certainly I don’t like to take the easy way. I like challenges that create the right energy for perfect interactions. I’m pathologically curious, I’m attracted to anything that is different.

In what is different Nicolas?
K: I grew up in a simple family, while he was born with that “elegance” that has always been part of him. Through our collaboration, I learned many things about my seduction power and more importantly about the importance of the right fragrance or dress, to point out certain parts of myself.

And you Nicolas, what about Kristen attracted you the most?
N: A creator is like a prince charming, in perpetual search of his dream princess, that is able to inspire his creative fantasies. Kristen was perfect for it. I created Florabotanica for her and her presence was essential for many other creative processes.

What did this experience leave you?
K: I considered Florabotanica kind of a passport for the adulthood, where women can seduce for real.
