Kristen Stewart is both an actress and a tabloid fixture. What kinds of challenges did that present?
As long as you're filming in cities in which the interference of
paparazzi is [negligible], it doesn't impact the film. And because
Kristen was so immersed in Marylou's world, everything was done in a way
where you could feel the concentration on the set. It was as if the
outside world didn't exist. Interiors were filmed partly in Montreal,
and it's very different there than in New York or Los Angeles, where the
tabloid culture is so present. We were spared that kind of
interference. That allowed us to dig further and further into the film's
fabric.
